I can not comment on the handheld as it went directly into the router table. This machine is smooth cutting, powerful and quiet. The function is perfect for table mounting. PC adds many thoughts on this! You can adjust the bit height with 75 301 height adjustment knob to lock / unlock motor off the bracket and the lock shaft from above. Spindle / collet increases enough that you do not have to reach out to the mountain to get to the nut. My only grip was that the height adjustment knob is an accessory to an additional 20 to 30 dollars, depending on where you find it. Amazon do not carry, but a web search will do a lot of sites. I save a few bucks and just use a bar 1 / 4 Drive 3 / 16 'and extension leads, but none of the shots that I found fit through the hole at the base of the button on the PC has a second, which is the lower guide plastic that helps align the axis of control with the height adjuster mounted on the base. I think the best option is to spend a few dollars more and get the PC version. This unit comes with an interactive CD is very well done. I even have plans router workshop and a short film in the construction of a table. Very well done I might add. In all that would give six stars if I could. This is an update to a reveiw in 2003 published the same week that I have this router. Well, the good news is that after three years of regular use that still would give this router 6 stars if I could. I think the significant money saved on buying a "router lift" type of attachment, because this router does it all and does it well. The not-so-good news is the router was recovered. I called my service and went on to be presented with a brand new router engine Yes, I am well under warranty, but I got the new engine, no questions asked! I do not think you can ask for more. I have since purchased vaccine. Handle kit, and I can talk about the performance of that theme as well. Again, six stars if I leave! I've never had a moment of dissatsifaction. I had to make some small adjustments in recent years, but the results have not really suffered. I take a good look. I know it will not be disappointed. I can make adjustments or changes in just seconds with the tuning knob through base.There I splenty power in this baby as well. I cut 2 3 / 8 "cast in one go. Perhaps the best feature is the heavy insulation around the engine. This router is quieter than a blender if you have a table and are looking for a replacement router or a better router, I can not begin to tell you how satisfied you are with this product. 30 of 32 people found the following review helpful. Great design for mounting under the table, so-so build quality by Michael Sandman This is a very good design for mounting under the table, because you can make small adjustments over time, without touching under the table. To do this drill a hole in the router table, which coincides with a hole in the bottom of the router, and the height that you use a special wrench to adjust. (Plan your own using a hex bit or buy the tool outrageously prices offered by Porter Cable. Porter-Cable was the most important institution but as part of the price.) ) Three problems: (1) The printed manual does not say a word about the installation and customization in this way, even if it is the biggest advantage of the design series 890 vs. expensive the better built workhorse 690 series, you need to think about it. (2) There is a plastic rack and pinion on the cutting depth, which feels less solid than the rotational orientation of the pin 690 will adjust itself.
